Our History
In Rochester today, it is hard to imagine that less than a century ago the area was all farmland. However, there are still reminders of the area’s past and one of the most popular is the Stone Barn.
The beautiful stone barn was built by William and Alzina Toogood over 120 years ago. The barn stood in hundreds of acres of woods and farmland owned by the Toogoods. Over the years the land was sold piece by piece to the city of Rochester for Apache Mall and Crossroads shopping centers.
The Stone Barn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Abraham Lincoln’s signature was on the original land grant.
In 1977, the stone barn was gutted by fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown but it was thought to be vandals. The building’s stone walls remained intact, but structural supports internally were destroyed. The sight was deemed unsafe and begging for the wrecking ball.
Today, Stone Barn Dentistry still carries on a healthy family tradition. We continue to provide quality pediatric dentistry and general dentistry for our growing community.
